The Islamic Center of Wheaton seeks a dynamic and dedicated individual to fill the position of Full-Time Youth Director. This role uniquely allows a passionate individual to significantly impact Muslim youth’s lives within our community.

Objective:

  • Scope — Youth and Young Professionals/Adults 14-30 Years Old
  • Support independent youth programs under the ICW Inspire model
  • To help youth initiate and develop their ideas, projects, programs, and activities.
  • To provide a safe environment of acceptance and capture youth with multiple interests.
  • To ensure our youth feel heard, welcomed, and empowered as builders.
  • Nurture a core team of strategic thought leaders to help drive long-term vision
  • To identify educational gaps in the youth community and develop engaging need-specific programming
  • Collaborate with regional organizations to increase traffic and expand the reach of ICW Inspire.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all ICW Inspire programs. Collaborate, mentor, and lead the ICW Inspire core team.
  • Train volunteer leaders to run programs and delegate tasks to develop future leaders
  • Develop and implement innovative and engaging programs for youth, fostering spiritual, social, and educational growth.
  • Actively connect with youth, understand their needs, and create a supportive environment within the Islamic Center.
  • Participate in meetings with other board members, directors, and staff as needed.
  • Develop and oversee confidential counseling services for troubled youth
  • Create performance and progress reports for ICW Inspire Programs for management.
  • Host weekly office hours, during both weekdays and weekends.
  • Organize and lead educational and recreational activities, events, and workshops tailored to the interests and concerns of the youth.
  • Facilitate open communication and collaboration between youth, parents, and the broader community.
  • Provide counseling and guidance to address the unique challenges faced by today’s Muslim youth.
  • Lead Friday Jumma Prayers
  • Help with Fundraising efforts

In the first week, expect to:

  • Onboard and integrate into ICW.
  • Learn the ICW Inspire model, process, and value proposition.
  • Meet the board and other functional support teams

In the first month, expect to:

  • Come up to speed on the program portfolio and get into an operating rhythm with internal team members.
  • Work with the ICW youth committee to establish a strategy and build plans.

In the first three months, expect to:

  • Establish regular office hours.
  • Become a trusted advisor to the community youth.
  • Quarterback programming, and managing volunteer activities on all programs, from staffing projects to providing delivery oversight and ensuring community and youth satisfaction.
  • Provide consultation or advice to management on policies and procedures.
  • Provide advice and support for planning long-term or short-term business objectives or initiatives.

In the first six months, expect to:

  • Broaden and deepen your ICW programming map, articulating ICW’s capabilities and identifying where we can help the community based on the strategy outlined in your plan.
  • Take ICW’s presence to the next level by introducing new programs, initiatives, and partnerships.
  • Analyze collected data from each event, and report findings to the board and committee chair.

In the first year, expect to:

  • Begin to mentor new team members, teaching them about ICW, our model, and how to grow as young professionals successfully.
  • Expand your pipeline and portfolio of programs and partnerships, accelerate growth in the region, and use the full suite of capabilities that ICW offers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in preferably Islamic Sciences, Sociology, Psychology, or Islamic History.
  • Raised in America, Canada, Australia, or the UK, with a deep understanding of the cultural context and challenges faced by Muslim youth in western society.
  • Possesses the ability to speak and write English fluently.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Minimum of three years of related training and experience working with Muslim youth in North America, including the conception, planning, and implementation of programs for Muslim youth.
  • Must have strong knowledge and understanding of the Qur’an and the Sunnah, and a good understanding of Islamic history and important Islamic personalities.
  • Must have a strong understanding of Islamic etiquette, manners, and appropriate behavior.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to connect with youth on a personal level.
  • Energetic, motivated, and creative with a passion for working with young people.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within a mosque or Islamic community is highly desirable.

 

Additional Information

  • Preference will be given to those with an Islamic education or a degree from an Islamic institute
  • Preference will be given to candidates with strong public speaking skills
  • Candidate should have extensive experience of camp style programs and youth education
  • Must be capable of relating to the youth
  • Youth Director often works long hours, which include evenings, weekends and holidays will be required to coordinate youth activities
  • Flexible working at a different location within the organization
  • First Aid with CPR and AED training preferred
